Day 1 (part 2)
Before: To be honest, I had been asking God for an opportunity to explore & expand my faith since I recently went through a lot of emotional struggles this past year. Anna came to the team one day & told us about this trip & I knew this was an answer to my prayers. I was shocked that so many other girls wanted to go on this trip because religion does not play a big part within our team as a whole. I instantly became excited because I knew this experience would be something special for me, but also my teammates.
During: We got to the airport & met all the Baylor girls. The NSU girls definitely out numbered the Baylor girls but we all got to know each other pretty quickly. We played a quick card game for an ice breaker to get to know a little more about one another. Marci told us a little more about the trip & I could see the excitement grow on everyone’s faces. She explained to us that each morning we would be working a camp with younger girls & each night we would be competing against the best women’s Guatemala team. I am currently one semester away from graduating with an elementary education degree so knowing that I will be working with little kiddos makes my heart skip a beat because I get to mix my passions of kids, soccer, & Jesus all in one trip!! Could we be there already!?
Now: We just boarded the plane for our trip to Guatemala City! The excitement is real... I’m still trying to decide if I should try to sleep or catch up on my latest Netflix series to make the time go faster. All day I have been thinking about all the young girls & women our group will be able to impact with the ability God gave us through the game of soccer. I ask for prayers & support as our group goes through this journey together. I can’t wait for the opportunities we are about to experience thanks to all the love & support from our friends & family.
P.S. This is my first mission trip out of the country so the nerves & excitement are really hitting me!!!! I can’t wait for what the week has in store for us!!
